More than 12 years on and the "Shed" is a hub of thriving activity. It has proven to be a very important place for men's physical, emotional and mental well being and personal empowerment in the area, and it has been said that is has made a difference to some men as their outlook on life has been lifted, especially for those that live alone - the social aspect is extremely beneficial, rewarding and empowering. All blokes, regardless of age, are always welcome at Eden Men's Shed Inc., and are encouraged to pop in for a chat and a cuppa, look around and give it a go. We are open Wednesdays and Fridays between 9:00 a.m. and 12 noon, and situated at 21A Maling Street, Eden. We welcome all men within the Eden community and those in the surrounding villages, districts and areas and offer a safe and relaxing place to while away a few hours a week.
Projects abound at Eden Men's Shed Inc. - wood and metal work galore, pool is played, and cooking (if you fancy it - we have a fully equipped kitchen). But also community projects are ongoing - prizes for fishing clubs and other charitable organisations are made, and we have donated items to other volunteer organisations such as the Eden VIEW (Voice Interests and Education of Women - which is part of the Smith Family) for fund raising raffles and activities. It is a safe place for men to enjoy and seek solace in the company of other men without the worries of being bored. We even have a stall with items for sale when the cruise ships visit in Imlay Street, Eden. At the Shed members are able to work on meaningful projects at their own pace, in their own time, and in the company of other men, if they like. A key focus is to advance the well-being and health, both mental and physical, of its members and to encourage social inclusion and interaction of all men, whether they live with family or alone, or with health issues, no matter their age. Members are free to make suggestions on how to improve the facilities, provide incentive or ideas on how to create or provide new interests for members, fund raising ideas, how to attract new members and anything else that comes to mind, and are and will always gratefully received.
DONATIONS
If you feel the need, the want, or the necessity, donations of any type (NOT clothing, manchester, bedding etc.) can be made directly to the Shed, or by contacting us via email or through our facebook group page (both of which are listed below).
Eden Men's Shed Inc. is community based and reaches out to the community in a variety of ways - taking in men with disabilities (special needs, dementia or ambulatory), and helping the community at large as described earlier, and getting involved in community projects - the latest being the construction and installation of 10 benches in the wharf precinct surrounding the Eden Visitors Information Centre on behalf of the Eden Port Authority, before the arrival of the cruise ship season in October 2023. Other persons with disabilities are welcome. We also actively assist by "manufacturing" custom/bespoke household items (tables, kitchen trolleys, railings etc.) when requested.
